We evaluate these situations on a case by case basis. No matter how derivative this suspenseful, high-octane, white-knuckled epic is, "Transporter 3" director Olivier Megaton compensates with picturesque staging, a cast with provocative faces, and atmospheric locales. Ten-year old Cataleya Restrepo newcomer Amanda Stenberg watches as the henchmen of crime lord Don Luis Beto Benities murder her mother and father after her father tries to leave the organization. Luis' right-hand man, Marco Jordi Molla of "Blow" , tries to capture Cataleya because she has in her possession a microchip filled with incriminating evidence that her father had given her as insurance.

He tells her that the microchip is her passport to America. Cataleya enters the United States, strikes a deal with the U. She escapes from the U. A criminal himself, Emilio lets the young girl sleep in his late son's room and trains her to as a contract assassin.

In one great scene, Emilio explains that even contract assassins—if they plan to survive more than five years—must attend public school and display some modicum of intelligence.

Besson and co-scripter Robert Mark Kamen fast-forward the plot 15 years ahead, and Cataleya has become a svelte killing machine who has discovered Don Luis has been taken into protective custody by the CIA. Nevertheless, the Central Intelligence Agency allows Luis to continue his business as usual. Neither the CIA nor the FBI, however, can thwart Cataleya when she goes into action against them, knocking off one individual at a time until she confronts Marco.

After she kills a victim, our heroine draws a Cataleya flower on him to remind Don Luis that he is her prime target. Cataleya lets her romantic relationship with an artist, Danny Michael Vartan of "Alias" , interfere with her plans.

Danny has no clue about her line of work, until he exposes her quite by accident to the villains. Calicodreamin 10 October I enjoyed the premise, and the kickass Zoe Saldana does a great job as the anti-hero, but the movie itself is just kind of boring. The action scenes are well coordinated, but there's not enough of them. Overall feels a bit lackluster. Bonus kudos for casting the uncanny Stenberg as Saldana's min-me younger persona!

So-so action thriller neil 16 September Making her way to Chicago, she enlists her thuggish uncle Emilio to train her to become a killer. Having grown up to become Zoe Saldana, she then embarks on a career as a contract killer, all the while zeroing in on Don Luis' organisation while trying to stay one step ahead of the US authorities the CIA has baled Don Luis out of a hot spot and is sheltering him and Don Luis himself, while trying to maintain a romantic relationship in which she lets her boyfriend have absolutely no information about herself whatsoever.

This is a totally by-the-numbers action thriller. It has some strong negatives - the main character, for whom you are asked to feel sympathy, is a contract killer yes, I understand why, but still Her much-loved uncle is, at best, a thug.

In fact, none of the characters in this film have much in the way of redeeming characteristics. It also has some positive elements.

Much of the action is excellent Cataleya's opening escape in Bogota, and the first caper of the adult Cataleya in a police station are both terrific. There is a fight in a bathroom towards the end which is brilliantly choreographed, but distractingly badly filmed and edited. Zoe Saldana is, as always, eye-catchingly beautiful, although she seems worryingly thinner than Neytiri was in Avatar. But the strongest positive is Amandla Stenberg, who plays 9-year old Cataleya.

You can believe that she will grow up to be Zoe Saldana but, in her own right, she is physically able, and gives a terrific performance, both self-assured and vulnerable, as the part demands. She is a performer to watch out for. This film entertained me, but left no aftertaste.

FlashCallahan 6 November A young woman grows up to be a stone-cold assassin after witnessing her parents' murder as a child in Bogota. She works for her uncle as a hit-man by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target - the mobster responsible for her parents' death Yep, another revenge flick, but this time, it's an assassin who wants revenge, and she is a beauty, so it's all different from other revenge flicks, right??

From an impressive introduction to Saldana, which is the films highlight, it goes down hill faster than any 'star' making vehicle. And loses a lot of credibility along the way. It's not the casts fault, they are all really good, The film does the action movie cardinal sin, it's very boring to say the least. It could have been a worthwhile action movie, and in the most extreme circumstance, even a franchise starter, but it falls flat on it face.

Boring stuff with a great opening. Generally you know what to expect when Luc Besson takes a skinny pretty actress and makes her a ruthless killer. Lots of "fun" action. We've seen it before in the Bridget Fonda movie. There are lots of inventive and slightly comical ways to perish here. And that is fun to watch. Zoe Saldana is rail thin there and acts alright. I was worried she'd break in two sometimes.

Her also thin beau played by Michael Vartan has a small role. The cast of criminals is typical drug lord type and is a bit stereotypical as in all of Luc Besson's movies. The locations are a bit ugly - well it is called Colombiana so what do you expect.

The violence is not too gruesome more just amusing. Didn't like it as much as Taken. The plot here has some good points in the almost Bond like way she handles her tasks. But is a bit less feel good and it leaves a bit of a not so nice feeling in the end. The whole revenge for killing family thing has been done a few too many times.

A couple of bigger name supporting cast might have helped. Overall go see it if you are a Besson fan otherwise it isn't a must see. Usually Beeson's scripts are smart, clever, and witty despite the gore. This time the cake fell. Perhaps the sludge is due to director Olivier Megaton's obsession with jumping out of windows and gory assassinations that prevents this film from taking flight because he certainly has a cast that could have given him much more.

Instead of school Cataleya wants to become a killer to avenge her patents murder: Restrepo bargains with her - school first then he will teach her how to kill. Jump 15 years and Cataleya Zoe Saldana is a full blown assassin, working as a hitwoman as a day job and seeking out her parents killers by night.

Is it all resolved after the bad guys are all dead? No, because there is the suggestion of a sequel! Good actors, sloppy script, redundant violence, noise, and lots of blood - if that is what lights your fire, this is a movie for you. Grady Harp. This flick was written by Luc Besson and was supposed to be a sequel to Leon but things didn't work out and the character was changed into a Colombian story.

When a young girl sees how her parents are she turns into a revenge killer. It is indeed a story you have heard a thousand times before but still this flick worked nicely due a few reasons, first of the child Amandla Stenberg witnessing the murder on her parents already is capable of putting a knife in one's hand. Secondly when we move 15 years further ,Cataleya now being a grown-up is out for a killing.

She's now played by Zoe Saldana. She looked sexy and do moves in mysterious ways. From here on this flick becomes a revenge flick. But it even goes further, a bit of love and again, she's witnessing a murder scene. From that point she uses big guns and grenades.

It all looks very well and the acting was okay by all but the only thing that annoyed me a bit was the way the fighting scene's were edited. They used different camera angles and takes to edit. By doing that it isn't always clear what is happening. And it was also sometimes filmed in close-up.

The fact that a girl is the hero and it do keep you watching because action is all around it's worth picking up.
